Picked up a bunch of fish about 2 weeks ago on the 7th. Plopped em in a 40 before I add them to the main tank. Bicolor angel, Pajama and Banggai Cardinalfish, percula clown, snowflake eel and hippo tang

First couple of days I noticed 1 or 2 large spots which I was sure were mucus cones on the tang. Shrugged it off thinking he was stressed from the move. Flash forward to now and he’s got quite a bit of stuff on him and I see him occasionally flashing, most of the stuff just sloughs off of him. He’s got a pretty big growth on the back half near his fin I tried to get a pic of. Nothing on any other fish In the tank

What could this be if not mucus ? I’m almost certain that’s what it is but I remember hearing something about mucus cones can’t form on fins which has me second guessing

Yes these are mucus cones often starting with a skin irritation and at times mixed in with ich, Often you will notice other occupants show no signs but recommended is to remove all fish and treat them as well using coppersafe or copper power for a full 30 days at 2.25ppm with an air stone added and monitor copper level with a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off and with occupants exposed, they too should go into quarantine
A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand store or a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.

The key here is to try and figure out if the mucus plugs are caused by some minor stress, or if they have ich as their source cause.

Are you seeing any white spots on any other fish?
