I have an apex controlling my main tank but I want to be able to monitor the tank in the other room, is the only way to do this to have a very long aquabus cable to connect extra modules?

Pretty much.. I had my frag tank “separate system” next to my display so I could control both tanks with one unit for that reason! Longer ph probe cables and usb.

I find wireless in this hobby to be very hit or miss, you can find plenty of threads about subpar performance.
