Well, managed to drag this into the fish room. Up next, plumbing! I'll be away for work the next few days so I probably won't get much done after tomorrow until later this week. Anyway, here's the fish room as it stands now

And here's something to torture myself with in a few days!

Looks good so far man! That is already one heck of a setup and you haven't even gotten to the tank yet!

Here's a tiny update. The night before I left for work I managed to get started on this stuff.

Starting plumbing the basic components of the sump, returns and drains.

Here is the return. The long section of straight pipe will be cut and I'll be placing a T fitting to allow for my water change station. If I have some time today I'll draw it out on paper.

And here are the drains. The closest to the window is the return, next is main drain, open drain and finally the emergency. I don't know why, but this section of the build gets me super excited[emoji16]

I'm in the process of researching a way to secure the PVC to the wall and ceiling. What are you guys using to secure these? I'd prefer something that's plastic over metal.

Hum I would have the drain from ur sump go directly to ur pump less chance of cavitation also if u go to Home Depot they have pvc holders made out of plastic

That line will be under the water line in the return section of the sump. Which should make that portion of the pipe full of water... I may be missing something, though.

Looking at this and yes there is a good chance of cavitation with that many 90 degrees so close to the impeller housing. You really want a straight as can be run into the pump.

If not cavitation, water stream vortex causing the impeller to vibrate in the housing. With my build, I initially had two 90 degree elbows close to my inlet and had a bad vibration of my pump. Pan world 150PS is what I use. I had to take out the PVC and use spa flex to make my turn, this stopped the vortex and allowed a smooth flow to the impeller. I'll go down stairs and take a pic of mine to show you.

Okay. This is something I'm going to have to "re-engineer". Thanks for the heads up.

Here is a quick update. Chugging a long with the plumbing.
IMG_1480705043.174000.jpg

As mentioned above, the drain from the sump to the return pump I'll have to take a look at and see what I can do. Everything is dry fitted minus the 4 valves from the ceiling.

Here's a shot of my manifold in progress. Still need a couple of unions so I'm able to take this apart.

Good news! Ran some water through the plumbing and my manifold. No leaks!!! Except one tiny one... loose NPT fitting at the manifold. Tightened the fitting and all was right with the world!

BRS inline carbon and GFO

I also decided to go with an Apex. Can any one advise me if the new Apex is worth the extra couple of hundred dollars vs the Apex classic?
