My 40 gallon recife build

Thank you so very much my friend! A little fun with the blue lights and Zeppelin. ☮️
I do believe it's nearly impossible that fun not accompany Zep.

I wish everyone lived closer, my birdsnest is breaking the surface, my monti cap is out of control and I need to frag my Raga Rampage chalice. I would love to give them away. I haven’t done it before but I don’t want my animals in the trash and I think I don’t have anybody to give them to.

Calling all of my acroholics!

Why did my acros lose their color, I wonder?

When my BC and SPS tank acros arrived, they were gorgeous. I haven't kept a lot of acros, so I was really enjoying the subtle colors and textures that they had. Slowly but surely all of them except the two from sps tank, lost color and are pretty much grayish green/brown lol?

Upon arrival:

I feel like par and flow are dialed in. I've had three acro frags in the same area for over a year now and they have retained their color. My p04 did test high the other day at .4 thanks to my new fish additions. Maybe that has had an effect?

Im hoping I can get them to color back up
(I did turn one solid white, but that doesn't count). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@Fish Styx ?

Water parameters are my guess. I read something on Reef Builders several years ago that said certain colors are "helped" by certain trace minerals. Let me see if I can find that article.

Did you look at them from above or only through the glass. It seems like the first photos were from above while the second were through the glass. For mine, they look much better from above then when looking from through the glass. I assume it has something to do with the light reflection and I assume they are getting used to the flow and lighting.

Outside of what @tbrown posted which I totally agree with, do you know what par they are under on the rack back there? I know that BC Corals are usually blasted with par and may be adjusting different intensity. Also, flow is a big one as well. My BC pieces are sitting at 500 - 600 par at peak with lots of flow and color is very good. I just posted pics today on my build thread. My nutrients aren’t low either sitting at around 15 to 20 NO3 and .15 to .20 PO4.

Note: I do dose trace elements.

Appreciate that brother!

P04 being that high is unusual in my tank. It caught me off guard a little. We're only talking about a few weeks since I got these. It happened quickly.

Yeah it's obvious from every angle in person. I was lazy and didnt take new pics, so I just used what I had lol.

I also thought about it being a bit of an acclimation effect too like you suggested. Im wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if the coloration came back.

Average 400 to 450 on par. And the flow seems really good, but I can pivot the nero 3 a bit or even raise the intensity. It seems to be flowing all around every side of them, and I see nice polyp extension.

Im dosing aquavitro fuel aminos and trace. There are probably some more acro centric formulas out there I could be using.
