Most of the equipment arrived 2 days ago, and I was quite busy setting up the tank to make my build thread, haha.
I'm running on a really tight budget, so a lot of my equipment is mainly nameless or obscure chinese brands.
2 days ago I spent an enormous amount of time adding and mixing my saltwater (Red Sea coral pro salt), as I only had access to a small, 6 litre bucket, so I had to mix and add water multiple times, on top of that my RO filter (I forgot to buy the DI part, which is coming later, but I decided to add water to the tank anyway, since I was impatient. I'm certain I'll regret that later though lol. I think it took nearly eight hours to get it all done and at the right salinity. I also rinsed my sand with RO water twice, which I now regret deeply as the water is still quite cloudy. I also rinsed and added two blocks of porous ceramic (which act as dry rock) and also installed my refugium light, reef light, skimmer, return pump, ATO, and wavemaker (I'm missing the heater as it has yet to arrive).
Yesterday, I went out to buy some live rock and macroalgae (a mixture of sea grape, chaeto, and some other algae, which was apparently free ) to help seed and kickstart my cycle.
My test equipment so far: a brandless refractometer, and some thermometer which shoots out a laser (can someone tell me id they're accurate? Thanks in advance!)
My parameters so far:
Salinity - 1.0255 (trying to get it to 1.026 by using sw in the ATO)
Temperature - 23.2℃
I'll update the parameters once my Salifert test kits arrive.
I'm planning to stock the tank with: 1 Red/blue legged hermit
1 emerald crab
1 Skunk cleaner/fire shrimp
A pair of clowns
1-2 Banggai cardinalfish
1 Tailspot blenny
1 yellow watchman goby/royal gramma
1 frogspawn coral
and one or two soft/LPS (leaving some space in case I'm planning on trying SPS or Tridacna clams)
This is probably too much for my tank to handle, but I'm not sure which fish/invert I should keep or drop. It would be awesome if anyone can suggest alternatives .
I just realised I need to buy a camera filter to take proper pictures haha.
P.S. Thank you for spending time reading this
