My husband tells me I'm crazy!

Do you name your fish or other tank inhabitants?

Absolutely, pretty much everything in my tank has names. The fish, shrimp, crabs and even some of the snails (if they can be recognised apart that is). Nothing odd about that surely?! :p

The fish are:
Nudus goby - Hop
Possum wrasse - Edna
Pink Streaked wrasse - Kylie
Yellow wrasse - Rei
Pintail wrasse - Tinker (male) & Belle (female)
Rainfords goby - Jessie

Regards

Lisa

You are not alone:
Clownfish - Marlin
Strawberry Dottyback- Huckleberry
2 Pajama Cardinals- Frick and Frack
3 Springer Damsels - Moe, Curly, Larry (Shemp died)
3 scooter Blennys- Bonny, Clyde, Steve (Clyde went MIA so Steve was supposed to be Clyde replacement. Got Steve home, Clyde was back)
Raccoon Butterflyfish - "A hole you nip my coral one more time, I am going to finish you!"
Fighting conch- "He who dies in battle dies a glorious death" (drives my wife nuts, they said they didn't care what I called it.)
Is this your newspaper in the morning before work too? Lol

Okay. Just because sane people name their fish, doesn't mean you're not crazy.

Lucky was not exactly a cycle fish, but when I bought the system there were nothing but Damsels doing nothing but terrorizing each other so I caught all I could a LFS took them but I could not catch this guy... Lucky! We had a Queen Anthias that was good buddies with the Gramma... it’s name was Freddy ( Mercury) and when that fish didn’t make it wife decided his buddy should carry the name.... lol

We have a dartfish named d'artagnan. Our two black clownfish are Nori and Chaeto. We have a hifin goby named Spiniker and a royal gramma who we just call gramma. We have gone so far to name our tuxedo urchins, Tuxedo, Rosette and Cumberbund. Also have two unnamed Molly Miller Blennies. I call one of our plate corals, the "Highlighter Flavored Gumdrop" and our Duncans are Duncan and Jimmy. :)

Back when I did freshwater a buddy of mine told me it was bad luck to name fish. He told me any fish that ever got a name wound up dead. So I carried that thought with me for my whole fish keeping career. One exception is a cinnamon clown I had. First saltwater fish I ever bought. She turned into a nightmare and every time my hand went into the tank she attacked. Any new additions to the tank met a swift demise even though they were not named. She was banished to the sump and given the name Pennywise. I feared sump cleaning day. She survived another 3 years in her prison. Then one day my cat figured out how to open the cabinet. RIP Pennywise. I'm not convinced that naming her caused her death but I would rather not sentence another to certain death by calling him Bob...

I named one of my fish but I can't repeat it on this site. It's a filefish that has decided that my huge colony of Sunny D Zoas are more appetizing than the aiptasia he was supposed to eat.... his name is AS***LE
