You're right it would be better to keep it separate from the display but at only 13 gal or so it would be difficult to keep it stable and I also didn't want the extra upkeep of another system. I may separate it at some point (probably at the pont where the exposed plumbing really starts to bother me).

My frag tank is also only 13G with a 20L sump. Total water volume is only about 23G and all my parameters stay stable. It really isn't much extra upkeep.

A seller on ebay makes them. Just search for "frag tank". The seller's name is macilew or something along those lines.

I may end up going this route. The more I think about how theplumbing looks the more I think I want to do it as a separate system. I am however about to set up a seahorse tank so I think for now it's best to piggie back it on the display. I don't want to become overwhelmed with three separate systems.

Plumbing a frag tank into your main system is a huge time saver. I've never had any problems with this type of setup.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Well, it wet! So far so good although its not completely full of water yet. I'm mixing up more as I type. Now I have to get going on the canopy before one of the cat decides to go for a swim, I'm not joking either its happened before, lol

Your cats like to go swimming in your tanks? My ferrets hate baths, but they love trying to go for a swim in my tanks.

It's got life! It's been running for a couple days now and I put some frags in it, they seem to be happy so far. I haven't gotten around to making the canopy yet and some LEDs that I ordered might have gotten lost in the mail:sad:. Some time ago I picked up a 12 cree LED kit from reefled so I'm running that at the moment. It's kinda ghetto now as I just through a couple scraps of wood together to hold the light for the time being. There will be a total of 24 LEDs over the tank when ever I get them. I also made a simple frag rack out of black eggcrate that you can see in the pic. I wanted to make a high speed acrylic frag rack but decided to go with the eggcrate since I've heard of others have problems with flow with those. Well here it is.

Thanks, I hope to start the canopy in the next few days. I also have to figure out a way to quiet down the overflow. It's not too bad but I'd rather not hear it if I don't have to.

Lol. That's why I set up the frag tank. My display looks like a frag tank. It's going to look empty once I get all the frags out.

Great work!!! Did you do all the staining and varnishing inside your home? Just curious cuz the photo look like it was done inside your home. Inhaling vapors perhaps???? JK :tongue:

I stained itinside which was a mistake lol. When I made my stand for my display I used water based stain and it wasn't that bad, this stuff was oil and it stunk. I had all the windows open with fans to try to air the place out. I'll never do that again.

It's a small overflow so not too much room to get creative. I have a sideways tee with a cap on top and a hole drilled in it. It doesn't slurp its just that water rushing sound. Maybe too much output from the pump or not enough?
