my new mangrove island

just got 15 new red mangroves but they are only 5 inch high and my sump level is 14 inches of water so i came up with this idea do you think it will work?:wink:

Yes- they grow pretty quick under a full spectrum bulb.....

But I have grown various grooves from different suppliers and some do well and others not so much....

you can also completely submerge them also. in fact i find that they grow faster that way. they end up growing straight up out of the water. try doing it with one, and let the race begin

ok i cant put the whole mangrove under water right there are no leaves yet ?

so i can put them under 14 inches of water?only reason i did this is becuz i read you can not put the whole man grove under water

everytime i have done it they do very well, and remember those a babys that grow off the mother and im sure some in the wild are submerged. my boss did not believe me till i put one in a tank with the roots in the sand bed and it took off. before i did this it was doing nothing

i did hear they have a problem letting go of o2 under the water and i did see bubble form on the leaves. i just used a baster to blow off the bubbles each day or so

i think i am going to put two in the sand bed and watch the race seee what one grows faster

very nice idea though, it'll be interesting to see if they do better submerged

I too had my mangroves completely submerged until I moved them, they grew like crazy and did end up sprouting some leaves once they grew above the water level.

Thats sweet I have Tons of mangroves they can be easily found here in Florida everytime I go to the beach I grab a few. I assume its legal because park rangers and FWC have seen them in my buckets its clear as day when they poke out 5 inches lol and they have never bothered me.

As long as you do not dig them up. The ones floating or washed up on shore are free game.
