hello! I just did a Red Sea kit test, and it said my nitrates were at 50ppm, however my reef tank has thriving corals. I haven’t had one coral death in months, and they all are growing. I even have a thriving bubble coral! Is this a mishap?

Get your water tested at a LFS. That would confirm it. Yes it is possible to have healthy animals in higher nitrate, but I personally would slowly bring it down to under 20. My tank did fine at 30 for months at one point.

I don't believe 50 is going to harm anything, but you could feed a little less and/or do some waterchanges just to bring it down a bit and keep it ftom rising higher while fueling excess algae.

If it ain't broke...….

Perhaps this is your tanks happy spot.

Test for a while on a weekly basis, PO4 too.

Perhaps its holding steady there and has a balance it likes.
