Great to hear that all of you have done better and are doing better! I can say that you can lean on God in any circumstance and he will help you thorugh if you will just trust and believe.

I for one started today trying to loose about 40-50 pounds. I am off od Sodas and am watching what I eat. It was pretty tough as well today. I am sure not NEAR as tough as the cig though. :) I am 6'1 - 6'2 and right at 250lbs so this big guy has got to slim down. LOL!

I'll be praying for you all in this matter.

good luck Bryan.. you can do it bro.. hey, call me if you get the urge and I'll remind you how yucky it is to smoke..

YOU CAN DO IT!

Bryan, I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and I know it is not easy but get yourself a large clear jar and everyday add to the jar what you would have spent for smokes and watch it GROW!!!! This is also a great visual for you to realize how much of your money was going up in SMOKE!!!! I at 1 point I was at 2 packs a day for most of my 18 years of smoking and never really knew how much it cost me as well as all of the bad health issues it causes. I feel tons better and now when I get the slightest of cravings I find something to keep myself well occupied. If I did it you can too!!! We are hear to Support you my friend. Label you smoke jar and then relabel it Vacation fund or somthing like that and you will be rewarded with better health and lots of extra pocket change before you know it!!!!

being a funeral directore i see all too often the damage cigarettes can do; your lungs are way too important, cancer is bad, emphesema is worse imo

at some point you will be around someone smoking and you will think it smells disgusting, that is where you want to be

i got to that point my senior year in college, though i had not really been i a full time smoker(never had a brand); i bought some sampoerna extra clove cigarettes and smoked two packs before thanksgiving break, by the time i had smoked two packs my lungs were so worn i didn't smoke cigarettes again for more than a year, and when i do now, they still taste like butt.

i do smoke when i am at bars drinking, mostly for something to do, and i never smoke cigarettes at my house. sometimes i'll go months without one, and never in my life have i had a cigarette before lunch, most come well after sundown. i suppose that i am just blessed to be one of those who doesn't get addicted to tobacco.

i would propose that one reason people gain weight after quiting is that food starts to taste so much better; smoke numbs your tastebuds and hinders your sense of smell

I'd wish you luck, but luck has nothing to do with it.
It sounds like you have the best motivations one can have, now all you have to do is not allow yourself a single puff. Your mind WILL play tricks on you, and you will convince yourself that "just one little puff as a reward" can't hurt. DON'T LISTEN TO THAT VOICE! It's so easy to type and so hard to do, just be strong.

Another option I find quite appealing is the nicotine inhaler. When I quit I imagine the fixation of holding the cigarette will bother me as much as the nicotine withdrawl and the inhaler seems like the best of both worlds. It requires a prescription, so talk to your doctor. The more people who know you are quitting, the more people there are to support you during those times your mind is trying to trick you.

Good strength to you!

Keep up the good work! I was 2 packs a day religiously for over 10 years...and decided to quite cold turkey a little over 2 years ago, and haven't looked back since! once you get through the first 2 weeks you are golden!

Here is an interesting timeline of how your body reacts to quitting smoking!

The benefits— When you stop smoking within,

20 minutes of the last cigarette

10 Years
Lung cancer death rate for an average smoker (1 pack a day) drops to 12 deaths per 100,000 people, almost the rate for someone who never smoked. Pre-cancerous cilia are replaced. Wow, thanks to all of you for the great success stories and the amazing support. I don't feel I can lose this time with this team behind me!

Day 3 begins, feeling great, must stay super busy today.

Money jar begins today.

As we never smoked inside, and always went outside...which ate up 10 minutes a pop.....I'm amazed at all the time there is in the day without smoking. Figuring I missed roughly 15-20 minutes out of each hour for God knows how long. I'm stunned I was so blind all this time.

Thanks everyone!

other quick realizations - mouth feels amazingly clean, lungs already feel like a new pair, dreams have been incredible, food is a whole new joy....even a freaking Coke tastes unreal!

Peace, Bryan

Wow Bryan I am very happy for you bud. This has to be inspiring for others as well. It is for me. ;)

Hey Rev - I think changing any habit is a tough job, whether it's me and smoking or you on your quest to lose a few. I'm here to be a shoulder when you reach for the Pepsi vs. the Diet Pepsi my friend.

The whole thing for me is calling it a "regaining of control of my life" as opposed to other things controlling my life.

Luckily, having helped others in my family (sister is still borderline morbidly obese) (oh, and thats not to at all imply you're even close to that!) I can offer a few tips.

Don't fall for fad diets, simply remove as much sugar as you can from your diet at first. Pay no attention to fat at first, just sugar. Then, when you have the sugar count under control, move onto the fat grams. Don't obsess about the numbers, instead you can obsess about how good you begin to feel.

Next year at this time, we'll change your user name to "Sexy Rev" :)

Good luck!

HA! That's motivation enough!

I think I will start my own thread as to not take away from yours, an so you all can push me in there. :)

Hehe, you're welcome in here anytime! But I'll find your thread when you feel the need.

Peace!

bryan, glad to hear your off the "coffin nails". i quit last year with the patches and stayed clean for about three months until wifey told me she was pregnant. i'm quitting again new years, for the same reasons as you, the kid and wife. i want to be around to watch them grow. just remember, when it gets real tough and you feel like lighting up, just tell yourself , you can always have one tommorow. i think it really works. i would say good luck, but quitting smoking has nothing to do with luck, its fortitude and determination. peace.

Day 7, all is good, a bit crazy in the brain, but urges are getting better. Wish I could have a few drinks tonight to celebrate, but still too touchy and I'll know I want to smoke if I drink...so HAppy New Years to all of you and have a beer for me!

Peace, Bryan

Bryan, joining on for the ride. I know it's a cliche, but I am not on my 3rd day fo quiting too!! I am with ya!!

Tim

Awesome Tim, welcome and good luck, you can do it! Day 9 here, all is well, didn't kill anyone today :) Man does food taste good now!

I know the wife is getting a bit tired of my edginess, so I'm trying to "get happy fast" so I don't end up a single non smoker!

Peace, Bryan

Good Job Bryan! I am praying for you bro!
