Hey all,

I have been on R2R for a while without posting much, and I am finally starting up a new tank so I thought it was time to share and also create a log for myself.

I just put together the stand for my Reefer 250 last night, definitely took a while but it is extremely well made. I am going to start cleaning some rock tonight so I can set everything up this weekend.

I have this planned as a soft coral, macro algae and anemone only tank. I went that way bc I will be eventually getting a big tank for my basement for sps and lps and didn't want to have to dose and test this one. Plus I love rock anemones and simplicity.

Equipment:
2 MP10QDs
2 AI Primes with mounts
Jebao DC return pump
Skimmer: ???

That's the main stuff. Any recommendations on skimmers? I have been thinking the Nyos 120 or the Aquamaxx ConeS CO-1. But do I need that much skimmer on a soft coral small tank? Any advice is appreciated.

Here's a couple pics. Thanks for viewing.

Thanks guys! Really excited to get it going. I got the rest of the tank put together, I just need to get my RODI system up and running so I can some water in it!

These AI Prime lights are incredible. So small but so powerful and I love that they have built in Wifi.

Some pics from tonight:

Does anyone have experience with bleaching rock? I have old rock from a tank that I am going to clean with bleach and muriatic acid. I am going to start with bleach tonight. But I am going to be gone until Sunday. Is it okay for the rock to sit in the bleach solution for a few days? Thanks!

Well, I started the bleach bath in the rock. It'll be in there until Sunday when I get home.

I'm going to hopefully build the mesh cover tonight if I have time.

Great job on the mesh top! Question? Was the mesh top a kit?

Thanks! Yes, it was one of the DIY kits from BRS. I had to cut the aluminum to make it fit but it all worked out. The only thing I am not crazy about is because I had to remove the overflow cover to have it fit flush with the top of the tank. I think it will be fine though.

I finally got my RO/DI system hooked up. My father in law and I worked all night on it but I'm very happy. Hopefully I can get the water in tomorrow and get the cycle started!

Nice! I started my 40G with 2 AI primes and found that they didn't put out enough light for my needs (mixed tank) and I ended up putting 2 Hydra 52's over it.

Thanks! And thanks for the advice. Is it the standard 40 breeder? I only plan on keeping soft corals, Zoas and shrooms in here, maybe some macro algae. What do you have in yours that needed more light?

One more question for anyone who happens to browse this. What is your preference on adding sand? Do you add it before you fill the tank up with water or afterwards? Thanks!

I will be following your progress! What are you going to fill the tank with?

Great! Just planning on soft corals and anemones. I am going to start looking for nice zoas, shrooms, rock nems and gorgonians. I don't want to worry about dosing/testing for this tank and I will do frequent water changes to keep up with all the necessary elements.

For fish, not positive yet. I have been doing a ton of research on Orange Spot File Fish and it would be great to get a pair of them, but I am a little nervous about their feeding habits. If I don't go with them, I will get a pair of either the ORA Radial or ORA Whitespotted Pygmy File Fish. Outside of that, I really want to get a pair of Blood Orange Clowns and a Tomini or Chevron tang. Possibly a couple nice wrasses.
