Nero 5 # 1 was purchased in May of 2021, only lasted 18 months before the motor housing cracked and started rusting. I did not want to pay another 93$ to replace the motor after already having spent 250$ on this pump.

Now my second Nero 5 has failed. This one was purchased in Feb of 2022. This unit shows no signs of issue at all but when powered on the impeller spins briefly twice then stops with a red flashing light on the controller.

Very disappointed as I expected spending 500$ on these would mean at least 4 or 5 years of use. I have cheap Jebaos running in my QT tanks for much longer than this without issues.

Email out to Ai support. So far no response.

I have had several Nero’s, some I have bought new and some secondhand. They seem very prone to swelling magnets when cleaned in vinegar, the ones I have had from new and only ever used citric acid on have been fine…

I had the same issue with 2 nero 5s and 2 nero 3s. They work really well for about a year or 2 and then started doing what you described, turn on for a short pulse and then red light blinking. I went back and forth with customer support and ended up just dumping them. I wouldn't ever buy one again. The jebao clones I have are working great with no issues.

Wow that vortech clone is tempting.

As an update Ai has agreed to replace my second failed Nero 5 out of warranty. So even though I would not recommend the Nero pumps based on my two units at least Ai customer service has made up for the failures a bit. Maybe I just got very unlucky with 2 early failures.
