I currently have just the one, but will be adding 2 more soon. My sailfin tang bothers him sometimes, thats why the white spots near the eye. Healed up in a day or 2. A friend took this pic and it turned out awesome!

Yah i was real worried for the first 2 weeks or so. The fish didn't eat for 10 days, but now it fights even my sailfin for every bite!

Wow...beautiful fish and great pic. Best of luck with the new addition, sounds like it's doing great after it got adjusted to the tank.

I really want one of them.... too bad I am told they are so hard to keep.

Probably one of my favorites none the less.

also want to point out - these fish look much more bright / radiant in person compared to the photo. Its a good shot, just doesn't quite capture the color.

Yah, the purple on the fins doesn't really show in the pic.

I think the hardest part about these fish is getting them to eat.

This pic is cute. I fragged a piece of my frogspawn and my little male clown seems to miss it

What makes them hard to keep? Eating habits, just die, etc..?

Really cool looking. Looks kind of mean.

1. They are an anthias, so they need to eat small amounts frequently throughout the day.

2. These are deepwater, so they really don't enjoy the bright light of a reef tank.

They are also called "fathead" anthias, because their body is compressed and deeper compared to most anthias.

Sweet fish though, very awesome first pic! Good luck with him!

Kigs - You can mix some... Get a copy of Scott Michaels, Reef Fishes Vol. 1. Lots of info on Anthias and which species get along. I've kept lyretail and bartletts together. Square or "blotch" anthias are very agressive and I always had a hard time keeping a male with two females, he kept killing the females!

My square anthias (I lost them in the blackout of 2003):

beautiful pics impur! it's going to look so cool when you get the other 2 in there! the one I had my eyes on in the LFS died so I guess I'll hold off on those for now.

brett, i saw a BRIGHT red male lyretail last week at a store, and i absolutely fell in love with it. unfortunately, when i went back this week, it wasn't looking too good... but it would've been nice to mix with my yellow spotted anthias. you're right about their eating habits. my anthis is an absolute pig!

Thanks kigs ;) Mine is a pig now too, eats like crazy. I can't wait to find 2 more!

I think the key to getting healthy ones is letting them stay at the LFS for a few weeks after they arrive. That way you can inspect them over some time and be sure they are eating.
