my upgrade journal/journey

They're not plumbed together, right? Two separate return lines going up and into the tank?

😵‍💫ok. ill try to absorb that. lol. they are the neptune pumps
In other words, you might be pushing more water than your drain can handle so some water is going through the emergency drain.
what he said!

Try turning the pumps way down, maybe 30-40% power on each!

Neptune pumps are either going to be a Cor-15 (1,500gph) or Cor-20 (2,000gph)… 1” pipe is only good for roughly 1,000gph!

Yup, dual separated returns, dual pumps for redundancy!

thats how it was on my old tank. so im trying to figure out this whole set up. yes they are plumbed separately
See the white reducing bushing after the valve here? That’s what’s restricting flow!

You could replace the gate valve (bushing is glued in to it) and downstream plumbing to be 1.5”, but 3,000-4,000gph sump turnover is a bit overkill for this tank!

will tackle it tomorrow. ready to hit the sack. thanks guys!! i really appreciate your help!!🥰
Maybe turn one return pump off for the night at least?

—You’re pushing your drains to the limits right now, the bean animal overflow is the only thing saving the house from flooding!

ok @VintageReefer can i pull you in here for your expertise? i think some of my torches didnt appreciate the tank transfer and 1 for sure has what looks like bjd. i pulled it and have it soaking in the joker concoction. gently basted off the goo. for sure one head is gone. not sure about the other one. should i treat the whole tank?

If the one head is completely dead and has been cleaned out with an antibacterial dip, such as the Joker dip, I would then seal that head with superglue to prevent bacteria from getting in their infecting the other torch

also regarding flow through the sump I aim for a speed of 2 to 3X the display gallons, that’s it

how long can corals go without lights? im having nothing but grief trying to get these lights mounted
At least a few days… could you do something “quick and dirty” just to get at least a light or two running safely?
