mysterious shrimp death

my cleaner shrimp died for no identifiable reason, i’m not sure what happened.

in my tank i have 1 clownfish, 3 clown gobies, midas blenny, 3 pajama cardinals, pink bar goby, royal gramma, and handful of hermits and snails.

its a 32 gallon tank

any ideas on what could have happened?

edit: it’s not a molt, the picture is kinda bad that was in fact that shrimp, not living

thought that with my crab, it was just molt

I got a peppermint shrimp at the beginning of June

Saw him the other night

Kinda surprised he's still alive, honestly

If it is a molt the shrimp will stay hidden so you may not see it for a while.

If it isn't a molt it may have just lived it's life. We ussualy have no way of knowing how old some of the creatures are when we place them in our tanks. Mysterious deaths can be frustrating. I added a hippo tang over 5 years ago when it was smaller than a blue damsel. Was feeding yesterday and found it dead in the rocks. No aggresion in the tank and every other fish fine. Sucks but it happens in this hobby :crying-face:

Shrimp are going to die, they will find a way

Take it out, toss it in the toilet, flush it.

And buy another one. Or don't, I'm not your boss

It looks like a molt to me. When they molt the exoskeleton is very soft. It takes time for it to harden. Till than they will stay hidden.

well that’s all the i hope it is, he was fairly large for a cleaner shrimp, maybe he was just old.
