I have 2 tanks. One at my office and one at my house. My office tank is slightly older (1 yr) than house tank (7 mo). Both around 200 gallons. Both mixed reef. Corals look great in home tank. Acros, torches, gonis, etc. all have great polyp extension. For some reason, when my office tank causes corals to close up immediately and I cannot figure out why. Tank stats below.

Alk- 9
Ca- 430
PH- 8.2
N03 + PO4 - not sure (trident is broken at the moment)

For some reason, whenever I put an acro or goni in the office tank, they immediately close up. Like, right away, within minutes. So its not pests, not fish nipping. Acros dont die, but they are just closed up. Same for goni. That being said, the torches in the office tank are super open and flowing freely. Any insight would be appreciated.

Lighting is 3 AI Blade Grows. Temp is 78, Water source is RODI, and SG is 1.025-1.026. There is a flame angel in the tank and I know they can nip at corals but the corals are closed up right away before the angel fish would have a chance to nip at them.

Consider an ICP. Rule out pump failures, heaters and stray voltage.

What is the lighting type on the tank at home?

I have experienced corals closing at the mere shadow of an Angel passing by.

Perhaps post an image of the office tank if able.

Any stray electrical current? That's my first thought. I'm sure there is a way to measure for it but that can be a cause. Bad heater or maybe a small tear in a pump power wire?

For sure get an ICP test if you haven't.

+1 on the ICP test. I suspect an imbalance in one or more of the minor trace elements that is causing the Gonis and acros to react. They’re more sensitive than torches. Iron and Manganese are probably the top contenders, but it could be something else.

Acros can close for months after being placed in a new tank for a lot of reasons. How much flow does the tank have. Both like a fair bit of flow as I’m sure you know. Typically if Gonis close, it’s because of a deficiency in manganese and/or iron, not enough flow, or they’re hungry.

Low nutrients could be an issue since you don’t know where they’re at, but I wouldn’t suspect that to cause the corals to close up immediately unless they were sky high. Extremely high nutrients could potentially cause both of these corals to close up almost immediately.

I would get your nutrients checked and order an ICP as soon as possible.
