I have a innovative marine 25 lagoon. It’s been up and running for 3 months. I currently have an occelaris pair and a red fire fish. All three fish swing out in the open all day. I have pretty high flow with an over sized gyre for sps. I am looking to add another with that will clean algae off rocks or parasites around rock work. I feel like the fish I have want nothing to do with the rock structure at all.

I would like some recommendations. I have six lines cause issues down the road however I do like how they seem to enjoy the structure. Had a clown goby in the past but heard they can pick acros. I just want something to swim around the rocks and act like a fish rather than a dog begging for treats!

Thanks

If you have decent pod population going and fine sand: I'd recommend a Hector's goby. Very active fish that will graze live rock and sift sand all day long.

I keep 3 Yellow Tail Damsels, lone Clown and a Royal Gramma. The odd number grouping of the Yellow Tail Damsels has worked out well (knock on wood). Fortunately I don't see much aggression.

How’s that affect your nitrate/phosphate? Do you run a skimmer?

Yes I run an IOAOI nano skimmer.
This tank has run deficient in both Nitrates and Phosphates. I dose Ammonium Bicarbonate, NeoNitro and Plus N and P.

I feed 4 times a day, a mix of frozen, pellet and flake.

Nitates finally around 5, Phosphates 0.02 maybe.

To avoid pest I started the system with dry rock and sand, I think that might have contributed to low N/P values.

Are people keeping two fire fish in a tank this size?
I kept three in a JBJ 28. It's my understanding they do better in odd numbers and purchased at a younger age. The Fire Fish postured but there was never any outright aggression.

What about a Midas or tail spot blenny?
I do like midas but don't know much about them. (Would midas be too big) I also think flame hawks are cool but may get big.
Midas blennies are very active and they occasionally perch on the rocks. They need a 30 gallon tank and can pretty much each anything that a clown can eat. You can also see if the fish are eating enough by looking at the Midas’ belly, as whenever it has eaten, you can see its intestines in a way

I have the same tank and getting ready to add a tail spot blenny. They are supposed to pick at algae on your rock. You can also go with some astrea snails or trochanter snails. They are fun to watch.

I just bought five trocus. The hermit crabs in my tank managed to kill 2 in 2 days. However, the tail spot would be nice for utility.

Tailspots have cool personality and look cool, but dont count on them to do much in the way of actually keeping algae at bay.
