Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast is my motto with reef keeping now. Fast, drastic changes can have big effects but they can also be very detrimental to the health of your system.

Also, my biggest tip to new folks, get a poking stick and don't stick your hands in the tank too much.

Welcome to obsession. I call it a hobby but my family calls it an obsession 🤭

Don't get caught up in all the high tech gear being marketed and considered necessary by some. Keep it simple and don't freak out over a little algae or a number on test that someone will probably say means your doomed. I like to let a tank run for a few months at least (longer the better) and reach a state of normalcy without a lot if intervention on my part then decide if you need to make changes or adjust something.
I think the hardest part of being new is trying to sift through all the information available these days and decide which path to follow. Once you choose a path stick to it. There are many different ways to success none right or wrong just different. EDIT: Some advise is just wrong but normally someone here who knows will intervene and correct the advice or at least challenge it. Some like to parrot what they've read or heard with no personal experience or science to back it.
Also every tank is different and what works for one may not work for all. Its a difficult hobby because there is no cookie cutter plan to follow.
