Got 5 nassarius snails yesterday. The biggest one has been sitting on this rock since last night. It’s been moving around a bit, but only on this rock. Why isn’t it burying itself in the sand? It has plenty of places to bury itself.

I don’t think so. Its body is completely white, and whelks usually have that spotty pattern on them.
The nassarius snails we want in our tanks don't crawl up onto the rocks... There are MANY varieties of whelks, and I personally would not take the chance.

Mine does this from time to time and is definitely a nassarius. In my case, I think it has to do with it being hungry. At least thats what ive been guessing. After i give it some mysis he returns to the sand where he usually is. I dont feed my tank very much, so when hes out and about during the day im guessing its for food.

Ive had them sit for 3-4 days then all of sudden on the move. Sand is their preferred location versus rock. Try relocation to sand and see if has moved overnight

Gotcha, I just moved it to the sand and keeping an eye on it. Thanks for the advice! Sorry if it made it seem like I was doubting you, I just wasn’t sure at first ❤️

My snails do that… wont move for days other than a few centimeters on the same rock. I think its a snail thing…

Good news, it buried itself under the sand! It’s just a lazy nassarius snail
