Nassarius Snails in Frag Tanks

I want to put some Nassarius Snails into my frag tank because of their OCD for keeping stuff clean. However, I do not want to have a sand bed in my frag tank. Any thoughts on if these snails NEED a sand bed to survive?

Not sure if it is 100 percent necessary but thats the main reason that people get them...i would think hermits might be better.

Yes, i believe they do. That is where they make their home and feel safe. Unless you pla on overfeeding meaty foods, the nassarius snails will be useless anyway. they don't eat algae, but meaty foods.

FWIW Scott- the nassarius in my new frag setup seem to spend most of their time in the sand portion of the tank, but don't hesitate to cruise over to the BB portion either. I think the main thing is they don't feel safe without sand at nighttime as thats how they hide. That said, I do have a couple in my 30 that's BB, and they've been alive in there for several months now, so they may not be totally happy, but they're not dieing because of it.

Daytime right? Mine have been pretty nocturnal... I only really see them at night or during feedings to mug my acans. And... assuming they're nocturnal, I would think frag tank lights with no sand would be way too bright for them to do well long term.
