Need a center brace?

Just built this stand for an 80 gallon shallow reef. 48x24x16 tank dimensions. Stand is 38" tall. Will I need a center brace in front center? (It will have a 3/4" piece of ply on top as well and a 4'x6' piece of 3/4 oak to help with any imperfections in the carpet and pad under it. (Apartment or I'd rip it up). It will also be about 6-8" away from wall to allow space for reaching behind if necessary as well as clearance for tack strips.

You are good, the weight is on the corners. The way you have the stand constructed now distribute the rest of the tank evenly.

This is exactly what I'm building for my 90! Do you think you could live with shorter legs, or is that the perfect amount of head room?

If my tank was taller, I'd be solid for shorter legs, mainly to be easy to clean. Since only 16" tall tank it's perfect for couch/seated viewing and maintenance.

The 90 is 24" tall, so I'm wondering if I should bring it down a little... I was going to go 40"... Decisions decisions...

Ill measure my 90 in the am. I'm 6' and wish my 90 was just a little taller. Have to slump a bit standing in front of it, but a good sitting height.

Given my recent experience with 120G I'd have suggested 2x6 top frame, but for 80G you're probably fine.
For those trying to decide how tall to make a stand - keep in mind what you want to put in it, how much room you'll need and how easy it'll be to get in there and tinker.
Oh, and make dang sure you use kiln dried lumber.
