Hi ran across this coral and the owner doesn't know what it is. It looks like a type of LPS. Any ideas?

Thanks all, confirmed that it's Lepta. The name rang the bell with the owner. :) I don't think I ever see these in my area so we weren't too familiar with it haha.

Your colony looks great! How is the aggression with the Lepta?
the monti caps started to encrust over the bottom where they are touching, but i don't worry too much - the lepto can just encrust the other direction. It'll work itself out.

I just keep an eye on it, if it's getting bullied to much by the monti cap i'll just pry it out and relocate - you can still see the putty is still visible on the top side so i can still pry it out w/o harming the small colony.

Yeah, it’s definitely a Leptastrea. You should check out Tidal Garden’s coral spotlight to know more about this coral. I have two variants myself, a yellow with a rainbow tinge and a green one. In my experience they are really easy to care for and do just fine in higher light and higher flow. However the golden rule is to always acclimate them to those conditions.

Personally, I have never had issues with Leptastrea stinging corals. I have kept some next to sps for about 5 months without much issues but then again this is just my experience. I find that they encrust quickly when placed in high light and high flow. I just frag them with those cheap diamond plier cutters (make sure they are clean tho) and they seem to heal very quickly.
