Hello all,
I'm pretty new to the reef hobby. I used to work at petco and as I'm sure you know everyone there is pretty useless. I was the aquatic and reptile specialist always had freshwater fish and this was my first venture into saltwater and reef. Well they didnt have reef until after a year I complained untill they gave me a budget to start a reef tank there. So everything I know I've learned from reading books or various websites. I dont really know many people who are into this hobby so when I need advice or something goes wrong I really dont have anyone to bounce ideas off of hence me coming here. My tank has been running for about 9 monthes now 55 gallon not the ideal demensions for what I want but I got the tank for free and I'll work with it do to budget issues. I know I need better lighting which im currently saving up for but what I have has been working well so far. I have a clown fish and two reef chromis. I'm pretty sure I have enough live rock more wouldn't hurt though but I'm not really sure on an exact amount. I have some coral in there but nothing too spectacular yet but I'm very happy with what I have so far. Right now I have a few zoanthid polyp frags I got for free from petco cause the pieces broke off during shipping and I couldnt sell them. I have a few different rock mushrooms, star polyps, and a piece of leather coral. So far everything had been great my tank did crash early on but that was do to my inexperience and lack of patience. Now that I have a little more experience under my belt I find myself with another problem and I'm not really sure what to do. I recently rearranged my live rock and now my leather coral wont open :sure: it was opening for a few days but not nearly as beautiful or large as normal when I arrived home from work yesterday it looked like crap and it still does today. I know leather coral from time to time wont open do to needing to shed its outter layer of skin if I'm not mistaken (I think I remember reading something of the sort not positive though.) I'm not to worried yet as it did do this when I first brought it home it shed in a few days days and opened. Its now higher in the tank and in a stronger water flow then it was, and I guess what I'm really trying to get at is do you guys/ladies think that this is what could be causing this, or do you think I should move it in to a spot with less water flow. Sorry I know this is a little long for such a simple question but I figured that a slight background on my tank was in order as to this being my first post and it wouild probably be hard to give any advice if you have no idea whats been going on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
