How about not doing a 100% cleaning, but a 25% cleaning every time you do a water change?

I have two 40g aio tanks that have been running for 18 months and I haven't cleaned the back yet. But then my tanks a mostly corals and other inverts. The main tank is all sps & lps with NO FISH and the other tank is all local collections. I live in SW Florida and do some collecting locally and in the Keys. The tank has 2 clownfish I inherited from a friend who was shutting down a tank. It also has a 3" mantis shrimp. BTW, I only run a filter sock and a layer of filter media in the back.

I've found some of my CUC in the back and I suppose they help keep things under control. Also, with so few fish, I feed very small amounts of food and less often.
