Hello Everybody

I am planning to do a DIY temperature controller and need some help with the wiring.

This is the wiring diagram that I plan to use for the controller.
STC Wiring Diagram.jpg

And I would like to use a rocker arm switch to turn it on/off. The switch is " CARLING TECHNOLOGIES Lighted Rocker Switch LTILA54-6S-BL-RC-NBL/125N"

From all of the google searches I have an idea, but don't want to be wrong and shock myself.

Thanks for the help
Randy

The rocker switch should be wired on the black line of the cord. This will shut all power to controller off.

Thank you so much for answering. The rocker switch has 3 connections on it. Should it be black line of the cord and the other connection being a black line to the device. Does the third connection go to the neutral line or not connected. Also I should add the switch has a light in it. Not sure that matters

For the light to work it had to have a neutral hooked to the switch. From one of the pics I seen on google images, there is on one side of the switch a diagram that tells you were to terminate the white and black for the light and then another black for the load side of the switch.

I would wire the light on the load side so you know power is being sent down line ( unless the switch does it for you after its wired) , just treat it like a single pole switch like the one controlling lights in your house.

Like everyone else suggested, stick with switching the + leg of your power. This is good practice in most applications and helps in case of a fault. If you switch the - side of the circuit you can risk a failure or fault and end up with the circuit being on until you figure it out.

Thanks Michael. Just to be sure I am correct with what everybody has said. The switch should be between the black wire of the cord and the first red screw down that goes to 1 in the picture?

OK, what exactly are you looking to do with the switch?
Just add a switch into the mix to control each side of the outlet?
Basically just like your controller is doing?

Looking to use the switch to turn the whole setup on and off instead of having to unplug it

OH, OK,
Just wire the switch between your wire coming in and then going to terminal 1 . Your just opening and closing the switch terminals, basically breaking + voltage making the unit turn on or off. Just make sure you find the correct terminals for the incoming+ and then out to the unit and then connect the neutral to the correct terminal.
