Alrighty guys, here’s what happened…I have this BEAUTIFUL mini maxi carpet anemone. And I was temporarily housing a clownfish with it…yesterday I came home from work to find the clownfish half-eaten, and still being eaten by the nem. And I thought: “what the heck?! Hasn’t this anemone ever seen Nemo?! They are supposed to be FRIENDS! You don’t eat your friends! “ :loudly-crying-face: …then, the next day at work, I told a co-worker what had happened…and he could not stop laughing!…anyways, anyone have a similar experience?

Carpet nems don't host clownfish.
That being said, it's likely the fish was sick or already dead by the time the nem got ahold of it.

I know they don’t host clowns, I was just shocked it ate the clown.

I'd like to see a picture of this. Did you take one?

Do they host clarkiis? Ive seen lots of pictures of them in the wild hosting what looks like carpets but I could be mistaking them for a different kind of nem

Pizza anemones (Crytodendrum adaesivum) sometimes host A. clarkii and that species looks a lot like a large maxi-mini (S. tapetum). But, no maxi-minis are not one of the 10 host anemone species.

Not all clownfish host all anemones.
They are not friends, I will explain you how it works. Anemones will always see the clownfish as food, what clowns do is they go in with the tail first and cover themselves with anemone mucus so the anemone thinks the clown is part of the anemone, if he fails that he gets eaten.
What probably happened was that the clown was sick or lethargic already.

Carpet nems DEFINITELY host clownfish! Both haddoni and gigantea are natural host anemones for many clownfish species, including (but not limited to) percula and ocellaris.

When did you get the anemone and did you feed it before you had the fish join in

I feed the anemone daily! So I know for a fact, it wasn’t starving.
