I got a small Carpenter Fairy Wrasse and Leopard Wrasse yesterday for $45. The Fairy is hidding in the rocks.

Everything is still going good, I got s snail with hair algae, so I wiped it off.

I have 6 fish now. I’m going to take it easy for a bit. I still wants tangs down the road. I wonder how many fish I can put in a 120.

Here’s a pic. In front of skimmer but a good spot I guess. I hope these things don’t leak. Seems like a nice connection .

Just got done with adding BRS DYI 1/4” screen top. In the pic you will see new screen and on the left old glass top. Looks much nicer, helps with natural evaporation and better light penitration ! Plus stops “carpet surfing “ aka fish jumping out to find me..

So I’m finally showing phosphates . My Hanna showed .03. I have been running carbon and gfo for a few days now.

My alk is 6.7. Seems like that’s on a low end unless that’s not bad? I assume water change would raise it. All other tests are good.

My leopard wrasse perished. Lasted 3 days . He was rubbing on the rocks but shows no ick that I can see. Maybe just a sick fish? Hope he does not get my other fish sick. Maybe it’s time for a QT

Just finished! Went from a 1 1/4” tube to 3/4. Got the 100x pan world pump. Got my 3/4 tubbing close to the bottom with a 90d and put some edges in it to help suction. Ran new line, looks like it’s good to go. I’ll test it next week when I do a water change.

This way I don’t have 3” of water still at the bottom

Another question-

So I put my tunze ATO in my return section. It’s working great until I hit the feed mode. The tunze goes beeeeeeeepppppppp for 15min. Well that won’t fly lol. What are my options? Vs turning it off every time I feed down the road?

Your tank is looking great. I'm was hoping to see some feedback about the sump level rising enough to set off the ATO buzzer when you go into feed mode. I'll be using a controller that I can turn the ATO off during feed mode, but I'd like to know what others are doing to prevent the alarm buzzer. Did you come up with a solution?

Things are looking good! I would agree those looked like Trochus snails, but they're the harder worker anyways ;)

I would always suggest a QT! If you have the space for it, and lets face it who doesnt want another tank in the house.

How is the Purple Helix working for you?

The Tunze ATO's come with an extra magnet that allows you to separate the electronic eye and the float. I always see the manufacturers image of the float and eye on the same magnet which had me confused. Imaged attached shows both setup options.

I have 0 Purple in my tank. I added the purple helix to my tub of rocks vs in my tank so I dont know if that made a difference. Cant say if it works or not.

Just like the last post. I moved up the magnetic with the safety float up higher so my water stops under it. The optical eye is at water level. This solved my issue.

I got 16 frags from aquariumdepot.com today! Most of them are nice only 1 is kinda dead and another was full of bubble algae. I’m not putting the one with bubble algae in the tank. I had the years ago and it was a horrible pest.

I did email the company and hope to find a resolution. Great deals tho from them.

Tank is getting full lol

Hello R2R!

I first want to say I really enjoyed everyone on this form lots of help quick responses I have used other forms in the past but by far very happy with you all R2R members!

Around two months ago I decided what the heck let’s start a saltwater aquarium! I first started in salt water when I was 16 and then got another tank when I was around 19 and then finally around 23 I got a 75 gallon that was my largest tank. I have three tanks up to that point I ran into many issues but obviously I did my best to learn from them. In my 20s I would work around 50 to 60 hours a week and now in my 30s I have switch careers to have more “me time”. That being said I wanted to get back into the salt water hobby as it was very demanding but also extremely rewarding !

I ordered a 90 gallon right off the bat but after doing more research and already noticing I was getting into it way too fast I slow down , stepped back and really did more research . I figured I wanted a 120 really wanted a 180 but I just to not have the space .

I had a few goals :
1. I wanted the most energy-efficient tank I could have .
2. I want to tune sure I am pest free of nuisance algae and pests
3. Wanted maintenance as easy as possible like water changes getting to the sump things like that .

So, I did just that. I purchased a photon v2 LED lighting system that uses under 200 W . I purchased DC pumps , reef octopus v4 for return, my protein skimmer as energy-efficient pump , my powerheads I’m still on the fence about . But they will be energy-efficient :)

I purchased 160 pounds of dry wafrom natural oceans . Same stuff as Marco rock . It turned out to be fantastic rock . I cleaned it, cured it which you don’t have to but I wanted to get the bacteria growing so my tank cycle was a lot shorter . I also added Coralline algae by Purple Hex to get the rocks going and beneficial bacteria .I purchased Bayer pest advance to dip all my corals . And I will do my best to keep nuisance pests out of my tank. My tub that I had the rock and started leaking after about a month only a few days before I was putting it in your tank that was a hick up . Kinda silly lol

5BFEFD50-53EC-4DC9-B31A-51E1C49E9645.jpeg

Now for the maintenance I most proud about . I ran an 1 1/4” PVC flex line to my basements to a 44 gallon brute trashcan I hooked to a RO system that is connected to the trash can with float valves . I installed a laundry water catch that’s plumbed my drain pipe just in case if there is a overflow my finished basement it’s not ruined . I have a large pump that I can pump freshly made salt water up to my tank super easy and wireless turn on with the power . Then hooked up a siphon system upstairs that runs downstairs in to the basement drain so I can siphon out 25 gallons of water into the drain within a few minutes . Then my freshly made salt water will be pumped back up to the tank within minutes . I Remember in the past doing water changes was extremely taxing this time is very very easy and will allow me to have a well rounded maintenance system . Also I dis not enjoy topping off the water and in the past I would get lazy about it and then my salt level would rise now I purchased a barrel tender 2 I have a RO line ran upstairs into an auto shut off system if it detects any leaks it’s will shut the RO line. then into the auto top off bucket that is connected to a cylinder that will turn on and off when empty or full . That way I don’t have RO creep happen. Then I have it connected to a Tunze that’s connected to my sump keeping fresh water always full in my tank ! No worries and happy reefing :)

Here is the grand pic! The LED lighting really throws off the picture as you all know :) doing the Aqua scape took five hours really happy how it turned out I have a lot room for fish swim behind and through the rocks I also epoxied most The Rock just because I don’t wanted to fall hopefully epoxied it won’t hurt me down the road

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think!

I noticed your light is black on the front- how did you do that?

Did you remove the gold stripe, or paint it? They are fairly easy to remove, but it's hard to tell from the Photo :)

Removed it. You remove the one side screws take off side cap and slide out. It got a little stuck but working at it I got it. :)

You can custome order red or blue . I did not like the gold

Added some new fish to the tank over the past 3 weeks.

Flame Angel
Caribbean blue tang
Yellow tang
Anthias Trio

Yellow tang is from a tank tare down and the other 5 are from Divers Den.

I used a rapid QT on these fish. All is well.

I have a total of 12 fish now.
