I don't want to start a political rant but I am wondering what everyone thinks of the use of neuclear power?

Personally I am all for it! And yes they can build one in my back yard if they would like :D

Let me know what your thoughts are and why :D

I agree! Build them in droves!!!! I see no reason for coal burning plants anymore, nuclear in the north, solar in the south.

N uclear energy is definately a plus...the downfall is the mechanical and human malfunctions to contain, and, control it.

This and disposal seem to be the biggest drawbacks to the use of Neuclear Energy.

What do you think should be (if any) the way we fix these issues?

I am for NE as well.

Yes!! They can also drill for oil in my backyard if it makes us Energy Independant..

I'm tired of watching specials on Discovery channel about Dubai and how many ways they can pee away the oil money they have so much of.

I would rather have a bunch of Rich AMERICANS peeing that money away here!!

i believe a inexpensive energy independent of paying residuals and taxes will never be allowed by the powers that be. NE is just one source of that type. there have been many inventions since the 30's that could solve our energy problems, but they would not be condusive to controlling the masses and making huge sums of money for an indefinite length of time. one example you can research is Edwin Gray's EV electric motor.

by the way i live within 60 miles of three coal fired power plants, in the morning before it gets windy the brown haze gets pretty bad. medical people i have talked to say breathing ailments are rampant here ie. asthma etc. Our county produces 40% of the natural gas west of the mississippi. i went elk hunting this week and it was hard to hear any thing form all the oil field traffic in the forest. it was like a busy highway (no exaggeration). i am by no means a tree hugger (some people call me a red neck...hunter and all) but i think this is not a good thing.

sorry for the long post got on a roll

I am for the development of any alternate soucre of energy. I do believe off shore drilling should occur to reduce the dependence on foreign oil - HOWEVER - there must be some soild plan in place for an alternative source. We would deplete our oil reserves at a rapid rate thus falling mercy to those who supply our oil now....not good.

Cleaner, cheaper, and more effecient source of energy is a must!!

What I don't understand, is that we can develop missles that can fire from great distance and land on a dime - or send a man to the moon - but alternative fuel and energy sources are somewhat of a struggle.

Now i understand it takes time and money and our entire infrastructure has been built around gas guzzling vehicles so it can't happen over night. But what amazes me is that for decades it has gone unnoticed thus reaching the point we are at now.

From what I understand, wind power is much more difficult than we are lead to believe, the cost alone to re-run all the lines that can harness the energy are astronomical. Don't hold me to this tho, it was something I over heard.

Any way....

My vote is yes.

Nick

I am for it, then just launch the spent fuel off in to outerspace. ;-)

We should definately switch to alternate types of energy. Maybe if we cut down on selling/giving all of our corn/grain to other countries and made E-85 more accessible, that could help lower fuel prices. When it comes to energy, nuclear is good, but we need to find a safer way to create electricity. Also, we need to find more uses for natural gas. There is so many things natural gas can be used for more than heating/cooking. There are also huge pockets of it all over the US.

E 85 is not really a good thing in my opinion. The amount of useable ,drinking or irrigation water used to produce it is outrageous. Also the few gas stations I have seen selling it are 10 to 15 cents higher than gasoline, and that is just a 10% blend

Im also for nuclear power. I still dont understand why we stopped building nuclear power plants. Most of Europe is way ahead of us with regards to nuclear power.

Natural Gas is a good alternative fuel, not only do we have TONS of it, it is somewhat renewable.

We replaced our coal burning plant w/ Natural Gas a few years ago. Not without requirments from the environmentalist.

The Coal plant discharged warm water into the river and every year the Manatee's would congregate in this area.

The NG plant did not do this so they made FPL build huge water heaters & dump hot water in the river to recreate the warm water zone used by the manatee for so many years..

??

There is a coal powered plant about an hour from me that has a 10,000 acre cooling lake that is a popular scuba spot in the area. Water temps in the winter if all three stacks are running during the winter can be in the 60's. Summer time a few years ago when I dove it the water was high 90's.

Yeah that is kinda wierd ,we have a cooling lake like that at Colorado city ,texas. In the summer it is like skiing in a bathtub:squigglemouth:really warm water...

We have 3 (or is it 4 now) nuclear power plants over in the Detroit area. Ok its one plant with 3 towers. Either way there are NUMEROUS uses for spent rods so waste is down to almost 0 waste now. Its not quite 0 yet but its close. I know 1 person who works in the plant and he explained all the uses but for the life of me I cant remember what they were (I do know they were thinking of building cars that run on the spent rods...) I did see someone in the paper that was naive enough to say not to vote for McCain (this is not a McCain vs Obama comment so dont take it that way) because he wants to build nuclear power. They are afraid terrorists are gonna take us over and blow us up using the plants. what the heck this person obviously doesnt realize that its impossible for that to happen because the nuclear power isnt the same as that used to make bombs.
