I’ve noticed it completely depends on the individual urchins personality, but I bet you don’t want to play “find the right urchin” either lol. At work I put our urchins in our frag tank and coral tanks to start, and if they turn into grabbers they get evicted to the invert tanks. We had a tuxedo urchin in the frag tank for almost 3 months and all he ever did was clean the frag plugs, never moved a single thing in there. Our halloween urchin was a monster and would go into the frag bin, steal ALL of the new un-plugged frags, and litter them throughout the tank. I had to scrape kenya trees off the glass for days.I would never get another urchin in my reef tank. I got tired of playing his game of find the frag.
Im setting up a FOWLR and I probably will add one to it though.
I’m actually a little willing to play find the right urchin now that I have a fowlr tank to put them in if they don’t work out in the reef tank.I’ve noticed it completely depends on the individual urchins personality, but I bet you don’t want to play “find the right urchin” either lol. In my experience tuxedo urchins are probably the safest bet, they also dont get large enough to harm the larger corals if they walk around them. Tuxedos are a little moodier though, i ticked one off by taking his shell “hat” and he stopped eating the hair algae in the tank and instead began to use it as camoflage, after a couple weeks i took the algae and gave him a clam shell and he went back to cleaning the tank as normal and then he gave up hats completely and continued being a janitor lol.I’m actually a little willing to play find the right urchin now that I have a fowlr tank to put them in if they don’t work out in the reef tank.
Any specific types that are less likely to move frags around in your experience?
I once had a Pincushion urchin and my blue leg hermits broke through its shell and killed it. Removed all blue leg hermits immediately and dropped them at my LFS. Never again. We're talking about clean up crews this week and a BIG part of a CUC are inverts! But not all inverts are good for a reef tank. Some are good at cleaning but are bad at coral nipping. Let's talk about it!
What are some common inverts (snails, crabs, etc.) that you would NEVER put in your reef? Why?

Where did u find that star?I love my little guy though! They are demanding though I know and just aren’t known to do well a lot of times in captivity.
My local fish store. It’s a West African Biscuit/Goniaster Tessellatus. They are very rare in the aquarium industry…most likely because of how far down most are.Where did u find that star?

I would never add another Pistol shrimp. That thing just makes a mess of my water column and has lowered my rockscape a good amount. My Yellow watchman Goby will be buddyless next time around. A fish store that is now out of them and can’t get them again at least anytime soon! They get whatever their importer can find. This was only the second time they had them the last was about 6 years ago. I’d ask stores around you.And what lfs might that b?
