I’m not new to the forum. I joined quite some time ago with big big plans, but life happened. I was gifted this well established biocube from a friend who moved out of state. I know allot about setting a tank up, but this sudden gift made me miss the learning curve for many of its inhabitants. I’m having it professionally cared for (starting today) cause I’m am going out of town for the next several months.
The following is just neat things I’m sharing. No specific questions, just sharing with everyone.
The relocation of the tank was fantastic! I was expecting a mass extinction, but all I got was a Cyanobacteria (red carpety stuff) outbreak. Unfortunately (or not depending on how you look at it) the pros are going to help me out here. I gave it a dose of chemiclean and that helped out, but we’ll see what the lady says today. There’s also an increase of green, almost spongy algae. Maybe grass like.
Arranging the rock was difficult cause there was so much life on them. Pulsating Xenia, 2 anemones, and some kind of mushroom.
Bubble Tip Anemone: they are huge! About 6-8” diameter, though probably appear larger due to water and curved glass refraction. They started half that size or smaller until they got comfortable. One actually hid inside a rock and popped out of two holes. He then walked half way across the tank to his new location. The larger one moved from the back to the middle and is stinging the Xenia.
A Kenya coral is massive. It’s recently started to shrivel up in the evenings but seems to be fine.
Pulsating Xenia seem to be thriving, though the anemones new location and spread is hurting one.
Fish: the tank came with a false perc, two pajama cardinals, and a blue damsel. Also several snails. I added a small, black/white false perc cause I didn’t want the established perc to get too comfortable in the new setup… higher chance of pairing. And boy did the pair. They are obsessed with both anemones and seem to have paired magnificently. I also added a coral shrimp and strawberry conch to theoretically help clean.
Here are some older pics (just a week and the tank looks very different!). It’s got a red hue at the moment. I’ll get some better pics tonight. Edit: sorry, all pics will have to wait till tonight I guess. Service is too shoddy at the moment.
