Weekly update
Looks like you need to use a scrub brush for the GHA, then pick up some astraea and turbo snails to help clean up. Or just pick up a lot more CUC to keep things clean.
Tank babysitters didn't communicate to each other... got over fed while I was away. This was AFTER scrubbing with a toothbrush during water change. I have 3 mexican turbos, 4 astrea, countless pods and astrea stars, and a dozen hermits. It will die back over time.

I would do a lot more to manually remove that algae or it’s going to get worse. Honestly, I would pull some rock out each water change and scrub with a firm brush. Then I would add some turbo and astraea snails and maybe a tuxedo urchin. Regardless, it’s going to create a condition that’s going to make it difficult to properly grow coral and the clam.

I use a toothbrush every water change. I have 2 urchins, several snails and a dozen hermits. I'm thinking of getting a seahare. I had macros before that helped keep the hair algae at bay. But the urchins ate the macros.

I don't think a toothbrush is going to cut it and you probably need to actually pull the rocks out to really scrub them clean. I'm guessing this is dry rock that's bound up a ton of phosphate and is now leaching it back out, which is typical of certain dry rock that hasn't been cleaned, but I'm just guessing here.

Thats exactly it. But its only 3 pieces and its wedged in.... with several smaller pieces (that i pull out to clean). Theres no pulling out these rocks without a complete teardown.

Oh holidays in retail... so finally got around to a water change and snapped some pictures for an update. Still dealing with excessive gha, but the clams seem happy

You really need to focus your energy on getting rid of that algae or it's going to cause some major problems, if it hasn't done so already.

Yep. Been an ongoing battle. Dosed some hydrogen peroxide a couple times... seems to make an immediate difference. But it was the last of what i had (surprised we didnt just throw out the bottle before as it felt empty). Gotta pick some up today. Still hesitant to try phosban as i dont have a skimmer.
