Got a clam... I know this size generally has an abysmal survival rate... but im finding everything seems to be thriving in this tank that I've struggled with in the past. So here goes! I just put it in so its not all the way open yet... no pyramid snails... but it did have a baby stomatella snail hitchhiking on it!

Recently shot a bunch of videos with John from clam mania and he tells me the size thing is BS. Since he raises them from Sperm/egg in captivity I tend to believe him :)
While I agree for the most part that purchasing a smaller clam doesn't doom you to failure. I will add that clam mania has systems specifically designed to rear and hold clams. They know the ins and outs of caring for clams.
The average hobbyist's reef tank is not always ideal for Tridacna husbandry. There are a lot of variables to consider. Other tank inhabitants, lighting....
Ideally if a hobbyist is newer it's my opinion that they buy a modest size clam if able.

Nice! I would just move it to the spot you want it to be in and enjoy. The whole size thing is kinda crazy to me, even at an 1" or 1 1/2" long, those clams are several years old.

That looks like it will be a nice one. I would love to see a top down pic once it gets opened up and happy.
Ill add more as time goes on
