About a month ago my female clown at the age of 10 suddenly died. So I found a guy not far from me who wanted to trade his clown for some Coral. Of course I made the deal.

After a few days in quarantine he went into an application box and my system. Then I released him with my male clown and the rest of the fish. The new clown is fine with them but my purple tang has not quite adopted him yet. The first day he swiped them in the face and just now I saw him bullying him a little bit. Hoping that subsides more.
It's not horrible but I am a little worried.

As long as the new clown doesn't have frayed fins, hiding in the corner, hugging the water line or breathing heavy than I wouldn't intervene.

I'd say the clown is well on its way. There's gonna be posturing no matter how you slice it, but, as you know, clowns can take care of themselves, even with a size differential. And hey, it's a Purple Tang. Bad attitude is an expectation, rather than a hypothetical.
