I just came home with my wife and newborn son and my canister c-360 is leaking water everywhere. I'm about to lose everything in my salt tank. Money is tight with our son just being born. Can anyone help me out with a wet/dry? I can only afford $100.

Were is the leak? Your tank has enuff live rock in it so you should be ok to keep it offline untill you find one. Go into the marketplace forum on here, i highly doubt you will loose anything. If there are indeed rock/ceramic/balls in the canister filter, just rinse them in tank water and put them in a container/mesh inside your tank for now

The marine land canister is leaking in two different places not the tank. I cleaned the seals and the parts they go on before I even started the tank.

Hey don't sweat the filter, your tank will do just fine without it temporarily and long term. When you have a chance, just give the gasket o-ring a good clean and make sure it seats properly. If you still have issues, or you see obvious damage to the gasket, you can usually contact the manufacturer for a replacement or look into a new filter at that time. Either way your tank will do just fine without it :)

Congratulations on being a new father!

As other have pointed out you do not need filtration on your tank just make sure to do regular water changes for nutrient export.. You can easily put together a wet/dry filter or sump for $100, 10 gallon tank on sale at petco for $10, some glass or acrylic panels to partition off sections in sump, hang on overflow for about $50 and a return pump is all you need to get started.

If you bought it new, Marineland has an excellent 3 yr. warranty on them. I have, unfortunately, had to use it with two of my filters. Call them though, don't bother to email, as my experience is that they take days to respond to an email. One time they sent me parts, the other time they sent me an entire new filter. So long as you have the receipt, you should be fine. And no, you don't need it right now.

Honestly, you should trash it and try to start your tank the "right" way. A small sump and protein skimmer with a small return pump and filter socks. No bioballs, no canister filter...

While I agree with upgrading to a sump , I also understand being on a budget, and at least to my knowledge, you would find it out of your current budget. You certainly can run a FOWLR tank with a canister filter with the right medium and maintenance. Also, you should make sure that the media isn't overstuffed in the trays in the canister, causing it to not seal correctly. You also need to make sure that 3ach of the O rings are in place between each tray and that the trays are seated against each other correctly. I found that placing my finger into the next tray tube as I stacked them allowed me to guide the trays together correctly, then repeat for the next tray. If any of that is out of whack, it will not seal properly. I'm assuming it is leaking from from where the motor head meets the canister body. As others mentioned, it could be that the main O ring is faulty or not in place correctly. If it has a Nick in it, it will leak. Also, while I used these for African Cichlids, I would use a silicon lubricant on that other ring lightly after cleaning it. I hope one of these is your problem, as they are simple fixes.

What size tank do you have? I have a sump rated for up to 60 or 70 gallon tank. I got it used when I got my original tank. I think it was missing a few pieces to set it up to run with bio balls but like others have mentioned, filter socks are much better. You could spend that $100 on a pump, filter sock holder & filter socks. If you want it, it is yours and I can ship it to you UPS from here in Lexington, KY. We will call it a gift of congrats for the birth of your boy. Just let me know.
