I’ve always wanted a Gigantea and found a nice red one. Put him in the tank Wednesday.

But now, after reading this form group and the stickies, I hope I’m not headed for failure.

It arrived Wednesday, I floated it for 45 minutes and then dripped acclimated it for one hour.

I put it in the crevice I designed for it and it immediately attached its foot.

The mouth is not super tight, but at no time or it’s inside coming out. It also does deflate at night.

Trying to see if I should try to get its foot off the rock and treat it or if I’m already pass that point. I do have clowns in my QT tank ready to go, I just have not put them in cause I don’t want them to irritate the Gigantea.

This was the day I put her in the tank.

What you have is a Haddoni, not Gigantea. He looks relatively healthy and seem to do OK for been new in your tank.
FWIW, Red Gigantea is a unicorn in the anemone world and people fly to destination to pick them up. They are for sale with a price of at least 4 zeros after it.

Ah man, I said Haddoni and they guaranteed me Gigantea. Even showed me the underside with the markings.

Read a lot of your post last night, so much that I almost setup my extra hospital tank at 2am to help the anemone as best I could.

Safe to add the clowns? Or should I let her rest a few more days?

Also, I’ve had this guy for a while and I thought it was a Haddoni also.

second one is a mertensii. show the verucae (markings) on the red, and let us know which vendor lied to your face so we can avoid!

edit: i forget, is holding vendors accountable still not allowed on this forum? if not, don't get yourself in trouble on my account lol

Lol

No, there’s no such rule.

But if it becomes a feedback thread, that will be moved to the feedback forum.

...where no one else visits and one else can comment. Clever!

OP, I misspoke; don't mention the vendor or it'll get closed off to our input. Just show us the foot if you'd like more information on the species. There is a true red gigantea detailed here. Hybrids do exist so there's always a chance!

To answer your original post, I would treat it if it has deflated more than once. Lots of haddonis come in sick now too but are less likely to die during treatment. Preference for antibiotics is Cipro > Bactrim > Amox > Erythromycin/Chemiclean. If it's only deflating at night it's in a pretty healthy spot and you could consider leaving it in-tank for treatment.

Thanks, I will get some pics tomorrow.

Yes, only deflating at night around this time, I put a camera on her so I can monitor her condition.

Looking good.

I also would say it is a Haddoni, but on the other hand... I can't really tell for sure anymore.

It is looking good.

I’d say the majority of vendors are very bad at IDing carpets. What you have is for sure a Haddoni, it doesn’t look to be in too bad of shape which is good. IME haddoni are more likely to bounce back than Gigantea, which almost always need treatment if they start a deflation cycle.

The smaller one is a Mertensii, they can get enormous

You misunderstand, both the actual policy and the intended reasons for a feedback forum.

The op can absolutely mention the vendor, and that will not cause the thread to be moved. But if the thread becomes focussed on that vendor, whether good or bad experiences, that becomes a feedback thread.

Such a policy is not intended to protect products or vendors from legit criticism.

The work around is to provide all information and proof before naming the vendor. Still not the same as free speech, but at least info gets out before thread is banished from the public's sight...

Edit: i never saw a thread locked because too many people were praising a vendor or product. EVER

I spoke to the vendor, he was overly apologetic and is making it right.

My biggest problem was I set up this tank strictly for a Gigantea. Now I am torn if I keep the Haddoni or not.

Great tank! I love wide shallow rimless tanks! I'm looking for one myself.
Is yours 4'x3'x12" tall?

I say keep this red/rainbow haddoni. It's a beauty and seems quite healthy. Having it, and the Mertensi, in the tank will create a need for caution with fish additions (don't add anything you would be too upset about them catching), but a red carpet with appropriate clowns is one of the best, and most rewarding, things to observe in this hobby.

Both the red carpet and the Mertensi will look awesome, especially via top down viewing, under blue LEDs!

Only fish that will be in the tank is my large black tang and the clowns.

I am hoping the tang is too large but I’m open to opinions. If he is at risk I’ll put him in my main display.

The tank is 6’x4’x12” It was strictly designed to be a lagoon style tank for carpet.

Black tang! Nice! My dream fish! Please share pics or video!
The tank has great dimensions (I want it! :) ) for a lagoon, amazing top down/tide pool viewing, but its height does pose a risk to the black tang, not so much right now, but certainly as the carpet and the Mertensi grow and fill in their respective real estate. There isn't much vertical room and as those nems grow and fill in the tank, it would be highly possible for the tang to swim too close or get spooked into one of them. There is very slim chance for even fairly large fish to get loose from a large healthy/sticky carpet/mertensi anemone.
