Hi

My husband and I just got a Red Sea Max 250 and while visiting a LFS we were told this is a great community that could help usgain knowledge to build a good system. Right now all we have is the system. Any tips?

I would need to know what kind of system you plan on having before I or anyone can offer tips. Will you be keeping corals or just fish?

Thanks! We have the plug and play Red Sea Max 250. It is 65a gallons and have everything built in. We have Carib Sea sandand that's it. No water no live rock etc yet. We want to build a reef system with corals and fish. Should we go live rock and dead rock? Should we buy salt water or try to make our own? We do not have an RODI system. Where do we go from here?

I would definitely go with dead rock. Let your tank cycle with dead rock. The reason for this is because you get unwanted hitchhikers when you buy live rock (such as apastia ). It is up to you on making your own water or not. I would personally say buy an RODI system and make your own water, but its entirely up to the person. If your LFS is very close it may not be bad to buy it.

Tips..... Yes, read as much as you can from this site, be patient with this hobby, post pics often, don't be afraid to ask questions, and hold on to your wallet...... It's going to be a crazy ride :)

Welcome to the club this is an awesomely addicting hobby;). On the water note I would def encourage getting rodi and making your own because trips to the store with buckets gets real old real quick!
