I have more than a few tunicates surviving for 7 months in my tank. They are on the underside of rocks and close up if the light hits them. I’ve also yanked a rock out when I thought one was a crab and it did fine even after putting it in coooold saltwater (trying to make the crab leave the rock)...

Sigh... had to put my clown in the tank temporarily along with the clean up crew from my other tank and now I see those isopods are parasitic and one is on the underside of the clown...

I thought I wanted real reef rock from the ocean but after seeing all the life that comes with it i think I’ll take the long new road. Dry rock and long cycles or me ;)

Welp. I had the light from my fluval xxii on the tank and a very small part of it got dropped into the tank. I’m talking like
Less than half an inch and it broke it. Going to try and find where I can buy a replacement :/

That’s the fun of getting “fresh” live rock, you never know what you’re going to get on it. Have fun

Isopod the good kind

Oh thank god. Do you know if there’s a gender difference or something? Because some have that spikey crown thing on their back end and some don’t

A full shot of the finished product. Bare bottom for now will most likely keep it that way. Had to take the brightness way down on the camera to get a good pic of it

Yes the females do not have them. However interestingly there are various male versions. The most dominant are the one you have pictured. There are others with smaller or no spikes which mimic females and infiltrate in order to mate since they can’t compete with the larger more dominant males.

Wow that’s actually very interesting

This looks like a chiton to me. Pretty cool how you can see the underside through the reflection

Did you manage to get the parasitic isopods out?
