New Maxima clam not open fully

Has been in the tank for roughly 30 hours. And this is the max itll open. Isit normal?

I'm no clam expert but our new clams would normally take at least a few days to acclimate and get use to the fish swimming over and around them. As long as the clam is reacting to movement, I would just give it time.

Yeah it is reacting to movement. Guess I'll wait a couple of days n c what happens

Tank is almost 1 year old. Salinity 1.025 temp 25.5c. Nitrate is 20 and po4 0.08. Others are within normal range

I would get nitrate closer to 5 I think it would help. Rodi water being used right? Calcium alk mag?

Have you tryed spot feed with all pumps off might make em wanna open up

I'd give it time and make sure it's got plenty of light. I would not sweat those nutrient levels and would not make any changes at this point. Your nitrate and phosphate are perfectly fine for tridacna.

If you want to dose phytoplankton in the DT then it won't hurt but it's not necessary but I would not recommend trying to spot feed any clam.

I would watch very closely if something, like a fish, is nipping it. If doesn’t open in a couple days or so I personally would try putting some sort of protection around it, like a mesh net and put in Tupperware in the tank to 100% verify it’s not being bitten - but would still give it more time.

why not spot feed I have seen many people do it? just wonder why myself personally. I do not have enough clam experience to be honest when it comes to feeding.

Spot feeding is not recommended by professionals due to making the clam close before you get food near it. Feeding is not necessary but your going to to then broadcast is best.

Also, clams dont have a feeding response like coral so spot feeding the clam won't do any good since you can't force it to eat. They filter feed throughout the day and absorb ammonia/phosphorus through pinocytosing microvillous epidermal cells. Light would be the most important thing you can provide tridacna.
