NEW NANO- LIGHTS ON OR OFF- YOUR THOUGHTS

So very near to starting new 13G nano tank - at present delayed by unexpected house rewire.
I am going to be using ocean Indo live rock, Live sand, and NSW.
Currently I am reading up on other peoples experience with the 'Ugly phase'


My Question is: Should I have 'Lights on' or 'Lights off' from start during cycling.

I am thinking lights on with the thought that the 'Uglies' have to come at some point-whether I turn light on at later time. And with all on at start it may help aid in growth of beneficial algae, and a quicker maturation and stabilization. Lastly, to support any light dependent organism's, that have travelled on live rock.

What do you all think?

With live rock starts you want lights on from the start.
All my systems are setup that way.

I've done both but TBH didn't really notice any difference. The only lights off that seemed to make a difference was running no lights for months. I started an NPS tank and am gradually increasing my light on time and am not seeing any new nasties but I went 3-4 months with no lights and it's still early. Rock was live rock but from my tanks not real ocean live rock.

To keep the rocks alive, coralline algae is only one example.
You can have coral in your system within weeks with live rock starts.
Check my 15g build for an example.

As mentioned I am about to set up my first nano a fluval evo-currently delayed by unexpected rewire to my place. Should be able to get tank started in few weeks.

I was lucky to track down some Indo live rock so I posted the thread due to concerns over best way to start regarding lighting and health of live rock inhabitants.

I guess some form of uglies will come at some point whether lights on at start or later. But in terms of introducing coral weeks later when using live rock. But, I was worried that I if I did - what would happen to health of coral if then got ugly killing off any new coal additions. Or do you think with all indo live rock (i am going to use 13Lbs) there would be less of threat from uglies and survival of any newly introduced coral. I am going to keep soft corals only.

Also, what was the model of hygger heater as i have been trying to find a small heater to fit in rear pump chamber

I deal with uglies as they arise but they are minimal compared to dead rock starts.
I use this in my 15.
It has a controller and has worked well so far.
