I got a new purple gorgonian over the weekend, and I don’t know what type it is, hoping someone can identify it. I don’t know if the polyps should be out farther, or not, or if this is healthy. But he looks happy.

Dex,
it’s a photosynthetic gorgonion. Probably from the Caribbean.

If you want identification help, white light helps!

Is this the same tank with a pair of clowns and white spots?

FamilyPlexauridae
The Purple Tree Gorgonian is also known as Knobby Candelabrum, and is prevalent throughout the Caribbean. It is a thick-bodied gorgonian that takes on a fuzzy appearance when the polyps of the coral are expanded. The base of this gorgonian is purple in color and the branches grow in a vertical fashion.

Hope this is a better picture,to my knowledge this is as far out as his polyps expand. But I’ve only had him for about a week. I’m using coral pro salt.
Also, yes this is the tank I had a pair of clowns in, one is fine and the other one that was sick looks great in his corentine tank. But after I discovered this clownfishes sickness, I decided to take a look at my other fish to make sure evrythig was ok. This was when I realized that my wrasse was also sick, and now we have him in an corentine tank.(been in there for 3 weeks) we have been dosing them with maracyn. The wrasse still looks sick, so I will ceep booth of them corentine until I’m sure there ok.

Sorry to get so off topic, but I appreciate you’re help.

Ps nice dog BryanM

I suspect yours will look more like this when it settles in.

Ok, but when I got this at the fish store it looked exactly like this, so I’m pretty confused.

Best to just wait and see what happens

Give it time to adjust and settle in, it should be good. Also, don't go crazy if you see it with no polyp extensions and just looks like a stick everyonceinawhile, they shed every so often to clean their coating off, but will come back looking even better. I'll post a Pic of mine when I get home.

My 2nd Gorgonian, pics below....1st one I had started off about this size, almost the same spot, but after a year or so...that thing had tips growing out of the water, but unfortunately over a year ago, my nutrients bottomed out, lost half the tank while I was away on vacation...to Curaçao. Speaking of the Caribbean, what's cool about Gorgonian, sea fans etc, is this is one of the corals you will see all over the Eastern and Western Caribbean, so for me, its a must have coral, as we travel all the Caribbean and snorkel our way through.

This guy just got done shedding about 2 days ago, and for 3 days or so, it was just a slimy looking dead stick, but, this is what they all do, to shed algae and anything else they don't want on their exterior....but they come back super bushy.
