This is a pic of my sump what's your thoughts . Thanks

In my head that could lead to the water in the refugium not having a good turnover as there are no water flowing "through" it. (Or maybe I've misunderstood how the water enters and exits the refugium.) That could be fixed by using a small pump and pulling water from further down the compartments though as you would if you had a satellite refugium not integrated in the main sump.

Usually the drain lines are first in the sump, but others have done what you are considering. If the configuration of you gear makes it difficult to have the fuge downstream of the drain, to promote flow through the refugium you can run your return from the pump to a manifold, and run a line with a gate vale from the manifold to the fuge. You can tune the flow thru the fuge with the gate valve.

What if I don't put a baffle next to the black box and just leave it open. The pump seams like a great idea.

Great idea I was stuck on how I was going to get the water to flow through the refugium. That's my fix thanks a lot for your help.
