So, in the past few days I had one wave maker die on me, my UV and last night the pump in my Reef Octopus Classic 5" internal died... I bought my Reef Octopus 3 4 years ago from BRS and I know they don't sell them anymore. They recommended the skimmer too me, as it was the only one that would fit the size of my sump. Obviously, I liked the recommendation, as Reef Octopus are great skimmer. I know I can replace the pump from CoralVue, but it's $130... at that price I'm wonderinf if I should buy a new Skimmer. The only Skimmer BRS has, that would fit in my sump and meet my water volume needs, is the Bubble Magus 5 Curve. It's normal price is $190, but on sale for $161... Any feedback on the Magus would be great. I doubt it will be as good as the Reef Octopus, but for $30 more, I figured I might as well get the new skimmer. Should I stay with the Reef Octopus or get the new skimmer? What do you all think?

I am guessing it is just an impeller. I have almost never seen a whole pump die.

Does that use a Aquatrance 1000 Pump? If so, there are other options available for cheaper

Bubble magus are nice budget skimmers.

Does your particular model of reef octopus run the pump on the outside of the body? If so then I would just opt to buy a new pump if it's not something like the impeller (usually the impeller fails more often than a pump based on my experience with sicce + sedra pumps).
A pump on the outside of the body generally works better than the space saver design (bigger reaction area) and is infinitely easier to service the pump
