New Tank Flow Problems: Surging Flow

Problem solved!!!

Synergy Reef has an excellent writeup about setting up and tuning one of their overflows. I went through that step by step. They also include some tips and tricks.

The photos above are my overflow box before and after I adjusted the height of the drain standpipes. The water level in my overflow was just too low. The two large holes from my tank into the overflow were exposed, causing a ton of noise. Once I raised the water level above them (by increasing the height of the secondary and emergency drains and messing with the return pump flow a little), the noise nearly disappeared with the exception of a tiny barely audible trickle from the water going down the secondary.

My wife is SO much happier now... and thus so am I :squinting-face-with-tongue:
