It's a hobby with a small consumer base. Vendors have to have decent margins because this is not a volume business. Plus, if you are getting 100 of something manufactured, you are going to pay allot more than if you are getting 50,000 made. But I imagine the better answer would be "Because it is worth it!" LOL

Best advise I can give is make sure you research alot and get a tank according to what you can afford, no hobby is cheap. in my experience things you have to do are more affordable than things you want to do
