In Charlotte nc here! I've been out of the hobby for about 8 years but decided to do a 60 gallon acrylic flat hex mixed reef....just got the stand build done, tank drilled, plumbing figured out. Waiting on the sump to arrive this Saturday then it is time for water!!!

Using the trigger sapphire 26 sump/refugium
Jebao dcp-4000 return pump
Jebao wp25 powerhead
Veraspectra 165w x2 led lights
Protein skimmer to be determined
60 pounds Aragon alive Fiji pink sand
50-70 pounds a purple reef live rock
Rodi unit and reef Crystal's salt

Do I seem to be on the right track? I wasnt too successful in the past and want to do this right

Live stock wise i plan on a cleaner crew from reef cleaners for a 75 gallon, split between display and refugium

Then ultimately I would like
1 or 2 bangai cardinals
Pair of black ice snowflake clowns
1 yellow tang
1 dwarf angel (maybe...)
1 Lawn mower blennie
Eventually a mandarin

Plan on seeding with pods as soon as the cycle is done so they can start to get going for the mandarin down the road

Then softies and lps...

What is recommended now for getting started? Any shops recomended over others? Any good place to get a starter coral pack?

Welcome
1 or 2 bangai cardinals ( They do not like high flow and will hide from it )
Pair of black ice snowflake clowns
1 yellow tang
1 dwarf angel (maybe...)
1 Lawn mower blennie ( needs lots of algae )
Eventually a mandarin (Needs lots of pods / worms) Look into a feeder in the "Paul B" threads

I am aware that the mandarin needs pods that's one of the main reasons I have a refugium haha....do you think seeding the tank with pods after the cycle is done and waiting several months to get the mandarin that the tank would be able to supply enough pods, or will I need to keep supplimenting?

Flow for the cardinals: the dcp4000 is rated just over 1000gph minus about 3.5 feet head height, the wp25 is just over 2000gph...

I will have 2 flat nozzle line lock on the return on one side, with the powerhead on the opposite side of the 48" tank. Will this be too much flow for the cardinals? Sounds like it might be

Got my lights hung and was worried about my 16 month old looking up directly into the lights so built a canopy for it that just rests on the tank super easy to remove...still need to add a trim piece or 2 and paint it, but here is where it's at for now.

Also sump is delayed until Tuesday....so no water yet...also still need to clean it real well after it sat empty a few months after having it set up freshwater
