Nicks tank

Hello my name is nick, I am 24 year old from willmar Minnesota. Just stated y first saltwater tank a couple months ago. Kind of like the hobby but I’m still very unsure of it. Have been keeping fish most of my life with my dad being my biggest role model.

I have noticed some brown algae growing on my rocks. Is it a bad thing or a good thing?

I am wanting to know how long I need to wait before I can add softy’s into the tank. I currently have a clownfish and a snail in the tank.

Welcome to R2R Nick. Typically I like to wait until I know the tank is stable before adding any corals, then start adding slowly. That's s nice setup you have.

Welcome! Do your research here and ask lots of questions. Don't be shy. Your security with saltwater is directly proportional to the information you gather.
The algae is normal. It may go away but there are many things that you can do to mitigate its buildup as well as tackling it. Test kits, good test kits, are indispensable in determining what point your system is capable of supporting corals. Do your research here and start making decisions based on the information you have gathered. Lighting, stability, flow and consistent husbandry are key points to research first.
