There's a reason it's banned. Nitrofuran metabolites are very toxic to humans.
They are cytotoxic, mutagenic and genotoxic.
The compounds in the nitrofuran class can do damage in quite a few ways.
I work in veterinary pharmaceuticals testing and I mentioned this BRS recommendation in work. I'm not exaggerating here, it was a stunned silence.
For your own safety, please find an alternate method.

I work in testing for drug residues. Not with the actual animal treatments.
Sorry, I can't recommend a method of treatment for you.
Living in Europe, our fish shops are legally obliged to quarantine before the fish are made available for sale so I've never quarantined any fish.

Ow ok, that sound like a cool job.
Do you know what the Guidelines are for quarantining fish? Do they have to use preventative treatments or do they just have to watch the fish and if they have a breakout of say white spot treat it?

I don't think in the uk they cure diseases, I got many times fish with ich and saw fish dieing in display tanks.

Maidenhead aq even says in their webpage fish you bought can have ich and thats normal.

Preventive treatment is a really good idea unfortunately you can't really buy any proper fish medicine legally in the uk, not even general cure.

While there are ways to get chloroquine I will also do modified tank transfer rmethod (with h2o2 bath) as a preventive treatment next time.
