Hello,

My name is Scotty I'm a noob..

I've had reef tanks in the past. Pretty much before this thing called the internet.

I'm getting back in to the hobby, I just set up a Red Sea Max 130D which a friend gave to me.

I have removed the hood, remove the trim around the glass, and installed a Red Sea 50 to the tank.

Its been up for about 5 weeks.

I'm looking for a PomPom Xenia frag if if anyone is willing to part ways with one.

Thank you

Scotty

Hi Scotty and Welcome! Glad you joined. Sorry for late welcome, but this just showed up.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Thank you for the advice, I'm not to much of a computer guy, but I did document with photos and a log book since day 1. THANK YOU! I'll start tomorrow.

Hey guys, as stated previously I'm not a guy who spends time social media. I did however want to show the progress of my RedSea 130D Max.

I also wanted to share that a month ago I purchased a new Reefer 300G2. I'm currently cycling the tank and I'm pretty excited about it.

Another photo of the Reefer G2. The rock & ceramic balls are out of the 34 gallon. I did add Dr. Tim's. The tanks been up & running since Oct. 4th. I think I'm starting to see it cycle.

Thx

Scotti

Ok, just a couple more photos, I'm trying to get photos without the background stuff in them. I also have a photo of my wife's 7 gallon tank.

As I build this tank I'll update this post.

Next purchase will be a controller board, so I can tidy up the sump area.

Then ReefLed 90's and a protein skimmer.

My current 34 gallon tank Is running elevated levels. Mag. 1500, Alk, 10.5, Calcium is 490, P.H. 8.3 Nitrate 8.0 Phos. Not detectable on the Hanna but the API indicates .25, Salinity 35. For the last 2 years I've been using Coral Pro salt.

The new tank will be running much lower numbers.

Mag. 1375, Alk, 9.5, Calcium 450, P.H. 8.0, Nitrate & Phos will find there own levels.

Why am I changing my approach?

I just turned 60, and quite honestly I'm tired of carrying around 5 gal. Buckets of water.

I'm currently building a 45 gallon mixing station. Tanks have been ordered and are set to be delivered next week.
Because I really don't want to clean the holding tanks very often I've decided to move away from Coral Pro salt (precipitate) and move to Tropic Marin Pro. I really would have preferred to use AccuraSea 1, but I just can't find it here in California.

My thoughts are if I take the next 3 or 4 months to reduce the elevated number In my 34 gallon tank. Once everyone is happy in that tank I can begin to move them into the larger tank.

I expect my dosing expense will go up a bit but I'm ok with it.

Thx

Hi Scotty/Scotti, You already have everything above that you can instead copy and past over into a different area of Forum for Member Aquariums. I find its useful to see my tanks' changes over time.

This below is the info they gave me when I was new:

One fun way to learn from others and keep a record of your reef aquarium is to create your very own build thread! A build thread is just a thread that tells us about your aquarium and might include photos. You can create your build thread in one of these forums. MEMBER'S AQUARIUMS

Once you have created a build thread then you can get your VERY FIRST USER BADGE! YAY! It's easy to do and I have created a thread that tells you how to do it here: BUILD THREAD BADGE
