Always looking forward to seeing an update of this tank… Might need to hit you up sometime soon to help restock my SPS collection...

What made you decide to take the biopellets offline and go with vinegar dosing?

also what acros are these? or are they the one and the same?

Man there was so many reasons. I was tired of sps looking so pale. The pics you posted are the same piece. Lineaged Garf Purple Bonsai. Place that thing in a lower nutrient tank and it'd turn almost solid purple. My chalices would grow so painfully slow or the ones that didn't eat well would eventually starve to death and die. I've even had sps colonies that I've had for years just get more and more pale and eventually die from what I belive is starvation despite my efforts to feed the tank. I went on a family trip for a couple days thinking the tank would be fine without me. Came home to even more pale sticks. I ran the pellets for 2 years+ but before that I was vodka dosing. When I started the pellets it was so that I wouldn't have to dose everyday. Thinking it's all in the pellet reactor and I don't have to do anything which meant less work. In the end I was dosing all kinds of stuff and feeding like crazy to keep colors on my sps. I tried less pellets. I tried decreasing the flow to a slight tumble where the pellets hardly moved. I figured with the vinegar I could at least control how much carbon I was dosing.

This is an amazing tank build and selection of corals.

My favorite is the sandbed full of chalices.
Thank you Sir.

Glad you are back man. I straight pulled the plug on the pellets in December. I haven't had a PO4 reading on my Hanna checker in years. One day my wife walks by the tank and says "there's algae growing on the tips of you sticks". I thought Hmmm... really? I tested my PO4 and it was .27 Fired the GFO reactor back up and have still been trying to get them lower. Not all but some of my sps have browned out from the higher nutrients. I've also lost quite a few colonies but some are still chugging along. My chalices are doing better then they ever have though. LOL!

This is one my favorite tank, I can look at this tank over and over again...
That's quite the compliment. Thank you. I hope to get the tank back to where it was just a couple months ago. But at the same time I have an empty Elos 160XL sitting in my living room.

Crazy man… Glad to hear things are bouncing back… Josh tried doing basically the same thing with vinegar and crashed his whole tan... lost all if his sticks...I think we also both got a bad batch us all at the same time because both our tanks went down the same month.. It's always a struggle trying to keep SPS and chalices in the same tank… And trying to chase all the numbers we all desire… If the tank is already happy sometimes it's just best to keep things just stable and normal…

Man I love that place too! Always a gem to be found there. I picked up a frag of that simplex they have in the display. Almost begged for a frag.

Over my kitchen sink with light coming in from the window. For those who wonder if the tips on the Superman Table are really that blue.

Yup! It's awesome. It darkened a little when I switched to the vinegar but is coloring back up again. It's a trooper.
