My 75 reef hasn't been doing that great and kinda wanting a little less maintenance I decided to down grade from a 75 gallon to a used nuvo 40. My plan for this tank is to still do a mixed reef but more softy and lps dominated. I also am going to try and keep this tank as pest free as i possibly can. Im going to do this by taking only frags from my old tank and inspecting and cleaning them if needed. The main pest in the tank is vermitid snails and nuisance algaes.
Stocking list
• frostbite clown pair
• pair of fire fish
• mandarin
• chromis (possibly get him a mate)
• yellow corris wrasse

Current plan is about 25 pounds of rock 15 and 30 pounds of fiji pink sand. The lighting will be done by a pair of ai prime 16hd. Going to try and use just one mp10 and a nero 5 if needed. The plan is to dose just kalkwasser and adjust if needed. Currently the tank came with a sicce syncra 1.5 but i will probably upgrade that to a dc pump of some kinda in the future.

Currently working on the diy stand. I have the frame built but i plan on wrapping it in plywood.

Have fun with it. I downgraded to a 40g breeder and I only have corals, and other inverts, no fish. I'd say my maintenance work is down 66% from the 90g cube I had with a full reef. I still have snails, hermit crabs, sea stars, sea cucumbers, coral banded shrimp and rock boring urchins along with quite a few anemones. Over the past 18 months, my black widow bubble tip has split several times and I now have 3 full adults and 2 smaller younger ones!

I thought about a 40 breeder but found this tank at a good price so i picked it up

I guess my point is, that if you want less maintenance, consider the number of fish you get. I found that none works very well. Everybody else in the tank seems perfectly OK and the tank stays MUCH cleaner. I only feed the tank every 3rd or 4th day for the inverts. My glass stays cleaner and my filters stay cleaner.

Got the stand all wrapped and now just need to cut the door out and paint it. Should have 25 pounds of rock coming by Monday. Gotta take my time with the aqua scape and then hopefully fill up the tank soon.

It won't be possible to keep those invaders out of the new system, as long as that part is expected the changeover will go great

They move over with the frags, as potentiation cells that you can't see. Water and hardscapes transfer them, including from pet stores (that's how they got in) so starting with all fresh items can't fix that part at all.

I know but im going to try my hardest to atleast get rid of as much as i can and try and keep a clean tank

Got the tank filled on last sunday. I currently have one ai prime set to 20k to get the algae to start growing. Possibly going to add a fish this weekend i did add bacteria to the tank already so i will check before i add.

Ammonia and nitrate where 0 and nitrates where present so i added a pair of firefish and a few test corals to the tank. The firefish hid for a few days but finally came out of hiding to eat today. Also added a tunze ato to the tank since it evaporates a decent amount every day.

Tank has just been sitting with two fire fish and a couple of tester corals. Earlier this week had thing string algae show up over night. I dont remeber what it is called. I sucked it out during the tanks first wc and added a midsize nuvo uv sterilizer. Also added 5 snails(astrea) and 5 crabs(blue leg)
